CA-NEWS (KZ) – The opposition in Kazakhstan initiates the nation-wide referendum to decide the country’s withdrawal from the Customs Union and Common Economic Space, nationalization of privatized strategic companies, prohibition to build the nuke plant and introduction of elections for governors of all levels, reported the news agency Novosti-Kazakhstan.
The referendum initiative group convened in Almaty on Saturday. 500 delegates from all regions of the country attended the event. According to the national legislation, such number of citizens representing all regions of the country has the right to initiate the referendum.
The opposition insists on nationalization of Kazakhmys, ENRC, ArcelorMittal Temirtau, Kazzinc and National Bank of Kazakhstan.
The documents adopted at the convention should be submitted to the Central Election Commission which will check the documents and will issue signature lists. No less than 200,000 signatures should be collected to call the nation-wide referendum.
