Preparation of domestic specialists for the Tajikistan textile and clothing industry in the focus of attention

Preparation of qualified local specialists for the Tajikistan textile and clothing sector is the focus of a sectoral roundtable scheduled for 30 October 2019, in Dushanbe by the Union of the Private Sector Development of Tajikistan (UPSDT). Cooperation between the state, educational institutions and the private sector to jointly create educational knowledge and capacity for the textile and clothing industry to be discussed by stakeholders and experts. 

Representatives of 19 textile and clothing companies (UPSDT members), 4 educational entities, related ministries and international organizations are brought together to discuss development issues of the textile and clothing sector in the country, especially the steady supply of qualified specialists in the sector and ways to strengthen the collaboration between the industry and the educational institutions to overcome this challenge.

Mr. Fayzalli Rajabov, Chairman of Board of the Union of Private Sector Development of Tajikistan (UPSDT), says: “Knowledge is the key in the business ability to develop successfully. Modern knowledge is a vital for a business to grow from a domestic industry to an international crossing borders with own products. Challenges to find competent professionals in core functional areas create serious barriers in the industry’s ability to compete effectively. Mismatch between skills supply and demands in the industry, lack of access to modern technologies by educational institutions, challenges in attracting promising youths and talents to the industry, and outdated curriculum are among main constraints we want to raise today in our round table”.

The participants will discuss the current status of cooperation between the textile and clothing industry and the educational institutions and will identify new opportunities to intensify this collaboration. Also, the standardization of educational system and programs, provision of internships opportunities for the students, and further employment with attractive and competitive job offers will be discussed.

The event is organized by the Union of Private Sector Development of Tajikistan within the framework of the Global Textile and Clothing Programme (GTEX) in Tajikistan Implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and funded by the Government of Switzerland.

The International Trade Centre, supported by the Government of Switzerland, aims to increase the export competitiveness of the Tajik textile and clothing sector by supporting sector companies, and relevant trade support institutions from both public and private sectors.
